Anderson Finishes 21st At NCAA Championship
Ashley Anderson Closed Out Her Cal Career With A 21st Place Finish At The NCAA Championship
EUGENE, Oregon –
Ashley Anderson took 21st in the triple jump on the fourth and final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championship on Saturday at Historic Hayward Field.
Anderson was the seventh and final Bear to begin competition at the 2018 NCAA Championship. The senior earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for the second straight year. She recorded a leap of 12.86m/42-2.25 on her second attempt.
Anderson's first attempt went 41-11.25 and had her in 13
th place, but she bettered that on her second attempt. As the rain picked up, even getting some hail as Anderson began her final turn on the triple jump pit. Unfortunately, the senior fouled her final attempt.
Anderson was competing in her third consecutive championship having a career-best finish of 19
th last season. Anderson became the fourth Bear to earn Honorable Mention All-America this week, joining four Second-Team All-Americans.
Ashtyn Davis,
Silviu Bocancea,
Peter Simon and
Lauren Martinez all earned second-team All-America honors, while
Tuomas Kaukolahti earned Honorable Mention All-America along with
McKay Johnson who notched Honorable Mention All-American honors in both the shot put and the discus.
