TAMPERE, Finland – It was the middle of the night in Berkeley, but halfway around the world one of Cal's track and field athletes was showing the world what she can do. Rising sophomore Camryn Rogers won the U20 World Championship in the hammer throw at Ratina Stadium in Tampere, Finland.

Rogers recorded the best throw of the competition on her first attempt as she launched her throw 212-11 (64.90m). Rogers unleashed three more throws over 63 meters, a mark only two other competitors reached in the entire competition. The native of Richmond, British Columbia was representing Team Canada.

Rogers won her qualification group on Thursday as she needed only one throw to book her spot in the finals. Rogers threw 206-8 on her first attempt to top her qualification group and move onto the final.

Rogers headed to Finland after a fantastic freshman season for Cal. She set the school record, the freshman record and the Big Meet record. Rogers set the school record at the Brutus Hamilton Challenge at Edwards Stadium with a career-best throw of 215-3 (65.61m), which also stands as the Canadian Junior Record.  She finished third in the Pac-12 in the hammer throw competition and placed 13th at the NCAA Regionals, missing out on a berth at the NCAA Championship by two inches.
