EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France – Cal senior Collin Morikawa helped Team USA to a victory at the Arnold Palmer Cup for the second consecutive season with the Americans closing out a 38.5-21.5 win over Team International on Sunday at the Evian Resort Golf Club. Morikawa and Team USA teammate Chandler Phillips became the first Americans to play on back-to-back winning teams at the Arnold Palmer Cup since 2011 while also equaling the most victories by an American at the event.

"Winning back-to-back years is awesome," said Morikawa, who earned the Michael Carter Award on the men's side for the Arnold Palmer Cup participant that best represents the qualities and ideals of sportsmanship, integrity and upholding of the game. "It was an honor to play in this year's Arnold Palmer Cup. It was a very well-run event."

This year's edition of Team USA became the first side to win as the visiting team since the 2010 Americans and the first to retain the cup since the 2011 Team USA squad. The victory extended Team USA's lead in the all-time series to 12-9-1.

Morikawa won three of his four matches at the prestigious three-day international Ryder Cup-style competition including a 6 & 5 win over Stefano Mazzoli on Sunday in the most lopsided men's singles match. He took three of the first four holes before dropping his only hole when Mazzoli birdied the par-three fifth. Morikawa wrapped up the win with his sixth birdie of the round on the par-five 13th.

"I played really well today," Morikawa said. "I was able to get off to a great start by going three-up through four holes and never really let the lead go. From tee shots to putts, everything was working and match play is always fun when the game feels good. Most importantly, I got another point on the board for Team USA."

Morikawa's fellow Cal senior KK Limbhasut also won three of his four matches for Team International in his first Arnold Palmer Cup but fell in Sunday's singles action to Justin Suh, 4 & 3. Suh, who was selected by both teams to receive the Arnold Palmer Cup exemption into the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, won the first three holes and Limbhasut was never able to cut his advantage to less than two holes the remainder of the match. Suh led by two after 13 holes before closing out the victory on a Limbhasut bogey on the par-three 14th and his own birdie on the par-five 14th.

"I couldn't be more proud of Collin and KK for how they played and what they accomplished for their teams," Cal's Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf said. "Our golf program has and will continue to be well-represented by these two outstanding young men."

"It was one of the best experiences in my life," Limbhasut added. " I have bonded with my teammates in ways that I didn't expect since we didn't know each other coming into this week. It is truly an honor to be a part of this prestigious event."

The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup used an expanded format of United States men's and women's collegiate golfers versus their counterparts from around the world for the first time in the event's history. Both the United States and Team International fielded 24 players (12 male, 12 female) for a total of 48 players that participated in the event.

"College golf took a big step forward the last three days," Chun said. "It was fantastic for college golf to add the ladies and broaden the scope to include a more international representation."

Morikawa and Limbhasut became only the second duo of Cal players to participate together in the same Arnold Palmer Cup with Morikawa the only Cal player to participate in the event twice. Cal had three players in the 2013 event when Michael Kim and Michael Weaver participated for Team USA, while Joël Stalter competed against his collegiate teammates as a member of Team Europe. Seven players in Cal men's golf history have played in the event with the others Brandon Hagy (2014) and Peter Tomasulo (2003). Former head coach Steve Desimone was also the Team USA head coach in 2014 while Chun was an assistant coach for the Americans in 2009. All Cal selections have represented Team USA other than Stalter and Limbhasut.
