TULSA, Okla. – California's Paul Barretto won twice Saturday to move on to the round of 64 in pre-qualifying singles at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.
 
Three Golden Bears began play in pre-qualifying singles Saturday at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Barretto, a sophomore, defeated Delaware's James Wilkinson, 6-1, 6-0, in the round of 264 and then topped Southern Utah's Salvador Mijaries, 6-2, 7-5, in the round of 128 to advance.
 
Cal's Bjorn Hoffmann likewise won in the first round, beating Delaware's Luis Molina, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. But the junior fell in the round of 128 to Notre Dame's Guillermo Cabrera 6-4, 7-5. Cal sophomore Ben Draper – a Nos. 17-32 seed – fell in the first round to Columbia's Rian Pandole, 6-2, 6-1. Draper will play in consolation singles on Sunday.
 
Pre-qualifying singles end on Sunday at the All-American, with qualifying singles and doubles running Oct. 1-2 and the main draws slated for Oct. 4-8.
 
DAVIS, Calif. – Cal's Dominic Barretto and Mert Zincirli booked their ticket to the top-flight doubles final on Sunday at the Aggie Invitational after the Golden Bears won twice on Saturday at UC Davis. Barretto also won his way to the top-flight singles semifinals, while Zincirli lost in the singles quarterfinals.
 
In the doubles A bracket, the top-seeded Bears topped Santa Clara's Connor Garnett and Jesus Barajas, 8-6, in the quarters and then defeated Stanford's Sam Turchetta and Timothy Sah, 8-5, in the semis. They'll face Stanford's second-seeded Sangeet Sridhar and Tomas Kopczynski in Sunday's 8:30 a.m. final.
 
Barretto upset the second-seeded Sridhar in the singles A quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, to advance to Sunday's semis. But Zincirli – the top seed – lost to Portland's Carlos Donat, 6-1, 6-4.
 
The Aggie Invitational concludes Sunday.
