Cal Defeats UCLA Sunday To End Storer

Classes Begin Tuesday With Home Opener Next Weekend

LOS ANGELES – California scored five tries in the abbreviated, 40-minute final of the Dennis Storer Classic to beat UCLA, 31-3, Sunday in Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

Bruins fullback Cian Barry chipped in a 20-meter penalty before halftime to notch the only points scored against the Golden Bears in their three-match weekend at the event named in honor of the former UCLA and U.S. National Team head coach.

Jack Iscaro and Christian Dyer both scored two tries for Cal and UCLA was denied any tries of their own. Still, the Bears know they squandered some additional chances with self-inflicted errors.

"We were one pass away from scoring on some of our mistakes, but it's not just about the scoreline," said Iscaro. "We're more interested in the standard of rugby."

Cal returns to campus, where, following Martin Luther King Jr. Day, academic classes begin Tuesday and the Bears train all week leading into their home opener Saturday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. vs. UC Davis on Witter Rugby Field.

"We have tomorrow to go into the meeting room and start building for next week's game," said captain Nic Mirhashem. "We're looking forward to it."
