Cal-Colorado Postgame Quotes
Overall thoughts:
"Down 18 with 18:05 to go in the second half, and we fight back and get the lead with 4 or 5 minutes to go in the second half…I was obviously very happy with the fight and the toughness that our guys showed in that stretch. There were times when I had a small lineup with
Justice Sueing at the 5 and
Juhwan Harris-Dyson at the 4 along with the guards, and they just showed a tremendous amount of fight and toughness that I've been waiting to see for a long time. That was the bright spot for me – to see our guys battle back, and get stops. They're a bigger team, and we still fought…We were just a couple of plays short of being able to get the win. If we don't go down 11 at the half, I think it's a different game."
On final 4-minute stretch:
"In the final 4 minutes, I saw some guys that had to give everything they had and got tired. We just ran out of gas after fighting back. Down 18, that's a lot of points. Paris has a layup at the end that we miss, Matt dribbles one off his foot…I think those are just fatigue plays because they battled so hard to get back."
On feelings after the loss:
"I'm discouraged because the losses have piled up, but at the same time, I'm encouraged. The guys could have very easily thrown in the towel but they didn't. To see that fight and that effort, and to know that we have it in us, is very encouraging for me.
On falling just short of the win:
"These ones always hurt, especially because we're really trying to get our first Pac-12 win. Like Paris said, we have to keep on building. We can't give up now. We can't get too down. We have to keep pushing."
On putting two halves together and building off the strong second half:
"Coach always says there's 40 minutes in the game. We have to play our full 40 minutes and leave it all on the floor. We don't have that margin of error where we can play laid back. We have to play the full 40 minutes and execute. Those little spurts where we're not completely focused, like the first half, it really comes back to hurt us at the end of the game."
On coming back after a rough first half:
"I thought we did a good job fighting back. Sometimes we may put our heads down, but this game we continued to fight. We just came up short."
On Coach's talk in the huddle:
"I don't really remember exactly what he said. He got on us a bit, but it helped us. Everything he said in that moment, it fired us up. We just kept chipping away."
On preparing for upcoming Utah:
"We have to get ready for the next game. This game is behind us. We didn't win. But we have another game on Saturday. We will come in tomorrow, keep our heads up, watch film, practice and get ready to play on Saturday."
