TULSA, Okla. – Jasie Dunk and Anna Bright finally got to play their main draw doubles opener at the ITA All-American Championships, and the 13th-ranked Cal women's tennis duo defeated another highly ranked team on Thursday to reach the second round at the Case Tennis Center at Lafortune Park.

The Golden Bear juniors defeated the 17th-ranked Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova of Ole Miss, 8-6, in an opening round of 32 match that had been postponed from Wednesday due to rain. Later in the day, the two Bears battled another talented duo in the next round in Central Florida's seventh-ranked and fifth-seeded Ksenia Kuznetsova and Valeriya Zeleva. But the Bears lost, 8-3.

When rain hit Tulsa again on Thursday, tournament officials moved consolation singles matches – including Bright's – from Tulsa to Oklahoma State's Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater. The 42nd-ranked Bright, facing another top-50 player for the second straight day, lost to the 49th-ranked Horvit, 6-2, 6-1.

Cal's All-American campaign – which included freshman Erin Richardson's qualifying singles matches – has now ended.

"All three of them did a really good job of adapting to some really challenging conditions," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "We picked up some good ranked wins. The team that Jasie and Anna beat in the first round of doubles is ranked 17th, and they lost to a team ranked seventh, so that's a good showing for them. And Erin did well in making her debut in a national event. It's a good starting point for her."

The Bears next play in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships from Oct. 18-22 at Stanford.

Augustus added, "We've had a lot of tough match play to start the season and picked up good wins. We'll try to bring that momentum into regionals and hopefully qualify lots of Bears for fall nationals."
