STANFORD, Calif. – The depth of the California women's tennis team was on full display Friday at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, with Cal winning 14 out of 16 matches on opening day. Six Golden Bears, including the second-seeded Julia Rosenqvist, advanced to Saturday's third round of singles and four Cal pairs moved into Saturday's second round of doubles at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
 
The 24th-ranked Rosenqvist won two matches, including a 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-0, second-round/round of 64 result over Oregon's Rifanty Kahfiani. Also in the round of 64, Cal's sixth-seeded and 42nd-ranked Anna Bright beat Cal Poly's Emily Monaghan, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2; fourth-seeded Haley Giavara defeated Portland State's Lottie Meszaros, 6-4, 6-4; fifth-seeded Valentina Ivanov topped Yana Gurevich of UC Davis, 6-1, 6-3; senior Katerina Stloukalova bested Eastern Washington's Marta Heinen, 6-1, 6-1; and senior Alexis Nelson knocked off Santa Clara's Caitlyn Frankel, 6-1, 6-2.
 
In the opening round of 64 in the doubles main draw, the fifth-seeded Jasie Dunk and Erin Richardson defeated Fresno State's Ella Husrefovic and Georgia Lawson, 8-2, while Nelson and Stloukalova beat Kristina Breisacher and Nikita Pradeep, 8-5. The top-seeded Rosenqvist and Ivanov and the fourth-seeded Bright and Giavara had first-round byes.
 
The regional championships end on Tuesday.
