BERKELEY – The newest members of the Cal men's rowing team will get an immediate barometer of where they stack up when they travel to the Princeton Chase this Sunday on Lake Carnegie.

The Bears are sending a freshman boat only to the competition, where they will race against some of the other top boats from other top schools around the country.

"We are excited to send a freshman boat over to race at the Princeton Chase again this year," Cal head coach Scott Frandsen said. "It is always an important focal point for the fall semester and a great opportunity for the young guys to travel to their first race as a Golden Bear."

Unlike previous years, there will be no separate freshman race this time at the Princeton Chase. In years past, Cal's freshman boat has competed in both the varsity race and freshman competition. The Bears won the freshman race the past four years.

Cal's freshman boat will include James French as the coxswain along with Angus Dawson, Grant Person, Dane Halkiw, Campbell Crouch, Adam Stephenson, Angus Gosman, Ed Digby and Balthasaar Issa.
