MALIBU, Calif. – The California tennis pair of Anna Bright and Valentina Ivanov reached the third round of main draw doubles in the Women's Collegiate Classic, beating Michigan's Andrea Cerdan and Alyvia Jones, 6-2, on Friday at Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
 
In consolation doubles, Cal's 44th-ranked pair of Julia Rosenqvist and Haley Giavara topped another Michigan duo in Chiara Lommer and Giulia Piarone, 6-3.
 
Giavara, who upset Duke's top-seeded and fifth-ranked Kelly Chen on Thursday, lost on Friday in the Orange Draw quarterfinals to San Diego's 22nd-ranked and sixth-seeded Solymar Colling, 7-5, 6-2.
 
In consolation singles, Bright, ranked 42nd, upset the Wolverines' 26th-ranked Lommer, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, while Ivanov bested Stanford's 93rd-ranked Niluka Madurawe, 6-4, 6-1. Rosenqvist, ranked 24th, fell to San Diego's Elizabeth Goldsmith, 6-3, ret.
 
The inaugural tournament ends on Monday.
 
MORAGA, Calif. – Cal's Katerina Stloukalova and Jessica Zeynel won their singles openers on Friday as the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational began at the Korth Tennis Complex.
 
Stloukalova, a senior seeded sixth, defeated San Jose State's Alba Pedrereo Galindo, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(1), while Zeynel, a junior, beat Sacramento State's Jenna Dorian, 6-3, 7-6(5), to advance to the round of 16 in the singles A top flight. Cal senior Alexis Nelson, also in the top flight, fell to Stanford's third-seeded Angelica Blake, 6-4, 6-2, and will move on to the consolation bracket.
 
In the doubles A draw, the pair of Zeynel and Stloukalova lost to Cal Poly's Delanie Dunkle and Emily Monaghan, 8-4, in the round of 16. Nelson partnered with Wisconsin's Melissa Pick in the top flight, but the duo lost to Pacific's Karina Vyrian and Anna Ramos Vinolas, 8-7(4).
 
Zeynel and Stloukalova opened doubles consolation with a win over Sacramento State's Dorian and Tsveti Yotova, 8-6, before getting a bye to advance to the semifinals. Nelson and Pick also won in the consolation first round, beating San Jose State's Savannah Sendar and Rozalina Youseva, 8-5, and likewise received a bye in the next round to reach the semifinals.
 
The Saint Mary's Fall Invitational continues on Saturday.
