MALIBU, Calif. – A Cal tennis freshman posted another big upset win at the Women's Collegiate Classic as Valentina Ivanov defeated Vanderbilt's 15th-ranked Christina Rosca, 7-6(4), 6-2, in the consolation singles bracket on Saturday at Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
 
Two of Cal's talented first-year Golden Bears have stood out in Malibu. On Friday in the main draw singles round of 16, Cal freshman Haley Giavara upset Duke's top-seeded and fifth-ranked Kelly Chen, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
 
Giavara had a tougher time on Saturday, suffering a 7-6(5), 6-1 loss to Georgia's 37th-ranked Vivian Wolff in the consolation bracket.
 
In consolation doubles, the pair of Bright and Ivanov fell to the Commodores' Rosca and Georgia Drummy, 6-3. Giavara paired with Florida State's Mira Stegmann in doubles, but the duo lost to Arizona State's Sammi Hampton and Ilze Hattingh, 6-3.
 
The Women's Collegiate Classic ends on Sunday.

MORAGA, Calif. – One Bear will be playing for a title on Sunday at the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational, as Cal senior Alexis Nelson and Wisconsin's Melissa Pick won their doubles consolation semifinal on Saturday to reach the title match.
 
The Golden Bear and Badger edged Stanford's second-seeded Angelica Blake and Sara Choy, 8-7(5), in the semis. There could have been three Bears in the final, but the Cal pair of Katerina Stloukalova and Jessica Zeynel fell to the UC Davis duo of Sara Tsukamoto and Lauren Ko, 8-6, in their semifinal.
 
In the Singles A round of 16, the sixth-seeded Stloukalova beat Santa Clara's Jamie Schroer, 6-2, 6-3, but Zeynel lost in a close match to San Jose State's Rozalina Youseva, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(6). Stloukalova fell in the quarterfinals to Pacific's fourth-seeded Klara Kosan, 6-1, 6-3.
 
In consolation singles, Cal senior Alexis Nelson dropped a 1-6, 7-6(1), 1-0(8) result to Santa Clara's Elvena Gevargiz.

Sunday's doubles consolation final is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start.
