Richardson Wins All-American Qualifying Opener
TULSA, Okla. – The Cal women's tennis team's
Erin Richardson continued the strong play by the Golden Bear freshmen by beating Syracuse's Sofya Golubovskaya in the first round of qualifying singles Monday at the ITA All-American Championships.

Richardson, seeded 13th, defeated Golubovskaya – who's ranked 81st – 6-2, 6-4, in the first round at the Case Tennis Center at Lafortune Park. The product of Bournemouth, England, next plays Georgia's 69th-ranked Meg Kowalski on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the main draw that starts Wednesday.

Cal freshmen shone in the recent Women's Collegiate Classic, with
Haley Giavara upsetting three ranked opponents, including Duke's top-seeded and fifth-ranked Kelly Chen, and
Valentina Ivanov upsetting Vanderbilt's 15th-ranked Christina Rosca.
