Track & Field Adds Olympian Bartoletta To Staff

The Three-Time Gold Medalist Will Work With Sprints/Jumps As Volunteer Assistant.

BERKELEY – California Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Robyne Johnson has announced the addition of two-time Olympian and three-time gold medalist Tianna Bartoletta as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bears in 2020.

Bartoletta won her first Olympic gold medal by leading off the world record-setting women's 4x100m relay team at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, while also taking fourth in the women's 100-meters in London.

"We are thrilled to announce that Tianna Bartoletta will be joining our staff as a volunteer assistant coach," Cal Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Robyne Johnson said. "Tianna comes to us with extraordinary experience as a world-class athlete. I know that our athletes will gain a wealth of knowledge from her experiences and her work ethic."

Four years later at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Bartoletta added two more gold medals to her collection. She set a new personal best with a mark of 7.17m/23-6 to win the women's long jump competition and made it back-to-back Olympic titles by again leading off the women's 4x100m Olympic champion relay team.

Bartoletta is also a two-time World Champion in the long jump, taking home the title at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, and again at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China. She also won the 2006 World Indoor Championship in the long jump in Moscow, Russia.

"It's truly an honor and privilege to have Tianna as a part of our program," Cal assistant coach Charles Ryan said. "Our athletes will learn so much from her not just on the track, where her knowledge and presence will be vital, but Tianna's greatest strength may be her mentality and work ethic. As we go about this evolution of culture within the program, our athletes will have access to an exemplary model of what it takes to be a champion."

A native of Elyria, Ohio, Bartoletta attended Elyria High School and was a member of the 2003 USA Today All-USA High School Girls Track Team. She was named the 2003 Gatorade Ohio High School Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year and became the third athlete in Ohio history to grab four event wins at a state championship meet in two consecutive years.

Bartoletta attended the University of Tennessee where she won SEC Indoor and Outdoor long jump titles, along with NCAA Indoor and Outdoor long jump championships. She received both Indoor and Outdoor All-America honors.

She is ranked first all-time in Tennessee history with a mark of 6.89m/22-7 ½ in the women's long jump.
