DAVIS _ The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team scored seven of eight goals during a dominant run between the end of the first quarter and end of the third, and cruised to an 11-6 victory over No. 11 UC Davis on Saturday morning.

The Bears (7-1) were leading 2-1 late in the first quarter when they erupted for consecutive goals by sophomore Brigit Mulder, senior Rachael Lewin, junior Emma Wright and sophomore Kitty Lynn Joustra to take a 6-1 advantage early in the third period. After the Aggies scored, sophomore Elli Protopapas responded immediately with a goal of her own followed by two more from Wright for a 9-2 lead with 3:06 remaining in the third quarter.

Wright's game-high fifth goal capped off Cal's scoring with a 10-3 lead, and UC Davis scored a trio of late goals to close things out.

It was the second five-goal game of the season for Wright, who has scored 20 goals in five matches after missing the first weekend of the season while playing with the Canadian National Team. Wright led the Bears last year with 47 goals.

Wright added three steals while Joustra added three goals. Senior Sarah Siepker three assists and four steals.

Senior All-American goalie Madison Tagg allowed just one goal while playing the first half and also stopped a penalty shot.

The Bears travel to UC Irvine for next weekend's prestigious Barbara Kalbus Invitational, featuring 16 of the top teams in the nation. Cal opens play against No. 17 UC San Diego on Friday.
