Sophomore Scores First Four Goals Of Game

IRVINE – Sophomore All-American Kitty Lynn Joustra scored the first four goals of the game and the No. 4 Cal women's water polo team defeated No. 17 UC San Diego 15-7 in the opening game of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational at UC Irvine on Friday afternoon.

Joustra scored her fourth goal just over halfway through the first quarter. She finished with her first career five-goal game.

Senior Sarah Siepker added three goals for the Bears (8-1) while junior Hannah DeRose scored two. Cal will next play No. 5 Hawai'I on Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m.

DeRose now has 11 goals, tying her career-high. Siepker, whose previous career-best was 10 goals in a season, already has 15 this year – tied for third on the team.

After the Tritons finally scored to end Joustra's streak midway through the first period, the Bears scored four more in succession to build an 8-1 advantage early in the second quarter.

Senior All-American Madison Tagg and sophomore Cassidy Ball split time in the cage for Cal, with each goalie making six saves.
