LA JOLLA, Calif. – California's Jacob Brumm and Yuta Kikuchi advanced to the quarterfinals on a busy Friday at the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship, with three rounds of matches taking place at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
 
The second-seeded Kikuchi and Brumm will play Stanford's ninth-seeded Jack Barber and William Genesen on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
 
Cal associate head coach Tyler Browne also reached the quarterfinal round of the open tournament, playing alongside former Cornell assistant coach Nick Brunner to defeat CMS pair Jack Katzman and Robert Liu, 8-6, in the round of 16.
 
Two other current Cal duos got to the round of 16. But the ninth-seeded Jack Molloy and Mert Zincirli lost to USC's top-seeded Brandon Holt and Riley Smith, 8-2, while the third-seeded Paul Barretto and Can Kaya fell to Genesen and Barber, 8-5.
 
Former Cal players J.T. Nishimura and Billy Griffith also competed in the tournament, but the erstwhile Golden Bears lost in Friday's round of 64 to the San Diego State duo of Jan Kirchhoff and Ignacio Martinez, 8-3.
 
The tournament continues Saturday, though as of Friday there is a 100-percent chance of rain on Saturday in La Jolla.
