Seliskar Sets Standard At Pac-12 Championships
Senior Becomes Winningest Individual Champion In Conference History
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Senior All-American
Andrew Seliskar became the winningest individual champion in Pac-12 Championships history and the Cal men's swimming and diving team opened up a huge lead after the third day of competition Friday night at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Seliskar set the Pac-12 Championships record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:31.07, giving him 10 individual conference titles during his decorated college career. Seliskar has also been part of nine Pac-12 championship relay teams, including a victory Friday night in the 400-yard medley relay.
Junior Zheng Quah won his second career individual conference title, taking the 100 butterfly with a mark of 45.13. Senior
Mike Thomas captured his first career Pac-12 crown with a victory in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:39.83.
The Bears head into Saturday's final day of competition with a commanding lead. Cal has amassed 644 points, with Stanford a distant second at 499 points.
Seliskar, a two-time Pac-12 Swimmer of the Meet, may be on his way to the trifecta. He now has two individual titles and two relay crowns during this year's championships, with a chance for more Saturday.
"It means a lot," Seliskar told the Pac-12 Networks. "It's a testament to the legacy that Cal Aquatics has with our current swimmers and our alumni. It's just such a tradition of excellence. I'm just really glad to be part of it and glad to compete in the Pac-12."
Junior
Pawel Sendyk, who won the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday, finished second behind Quah in the 100 butterfly while sophomore
Ryan Hoffer was fourth. Quah, who won the Pac-12 title in the 200 butterfly last year, also has two relay titles this week.
"The thing about our team is we're really competitive," Quah told the Pac-12 Networks. "Having (Sendyk) next to me is a sense of comfort. There's familiarity. I race him every day."
Thomas earned his first conference title in his 11
th race at the Pac-12 Championships, edging Arizona's David Schlicht by two-tenths of a second. Cal sophomore Sean Greishop finished third, clocking in at 3:41.17.
The Bears had a pair of strong second-place finishes, with freshman
Reece Whitley finishing the 100-yard breaststroke in 51.38 and sophomore
Daniel Carr clocking a 45.64 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Michael Jensen joined Seliskar on the winning 400 medley relay team. The quartet finished the race in 3:04.09.
Cal will try to close out its second straight team title on a busy Saturday, with finals scheduled in the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.
