Cal Women’s Golf Announces Team Awards

Cindy Oh Wins Most Valuable Performer and Most Improved

BERKELEY – The Cal women's golf team announced their season-long awards at the team banquet on Friday evening. Cindy Oh was the big winner on the evening as the senior won both the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player Awards. Maria Herraez Galvez won the Molly Murphy Crowley Short Game Award.

Oh took home the award after a standout campaign which saw her collect the lowest scoring season average by a senior in Cal history. The Gardena, California native currently has an average of 73.07, which surpassed Pia Halbig's 2011 mark of 73.27. Oh also played two of the 10 best rounds in school history. Oh tied for the school record for shots under par as she shot a 6-under 67 at the Pac-12 Preview on November 5 to become the third Bear to go 6-under at a tournament. Additionally, Oh shot 5-under 67 in the Bears' opening tournament of the season at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in September.

Oh's season was a marked improvement over her first season at Cal. Oh transferred to the Bears after two years at Central Arkansas. Her first season at Cal, she recorded an average of 76.4 while only recording one top-20 finish and two rounds at par or under. She came a long way in 2019 as she recorded three top-five finishes and five top-20 finishes. That was on the back of 12 rounds at par or under during the season. Oh also hit the match-winning putt on the second tiebreaker hole at the inaugural Big Match this fall as she led the Bears to a match-play victory over Stanford.

For her improvements and stellar play throughout the year, Oh was named both the Most Valuable Player and the Most Improved Player.

Herraez Galvez earned the third major honor of the evening as the junior from Madrid, Spain received the Molly Murphy Crowley Short Game Award. Herraez Galvez led the team with the highest up-and-down percentage as she converted on 64.86 percent of her attempts. Herraez Galvez recorded her best finish of the year at the Pac-12 Preview as she shot 2-under and tied for eighth place in a field featuring all of the Pac-12 schools.

Additionally, Cal also honored their trio of seniors. In addition to Oh, Cal celebrated Marianne Li and Amina Wolf. Li has played in 41 events and 114 rounds of golf while representing the Golden Bears. Li has started and played in every one of Cal's tournaments over her four-year career. She has one of the best rounds in Cal's history this year as she shot a 5-under 67 at the Juli Inkster Invitational at Meadow Club. The Bellevue, Washington native currently holds Cal's all-time low scoring season by a freshman as she qualified for the NCAA Championship as an individual that year. Li was a tri-medalist at the NCAA Shoal Creek Regional to earn the NCAA berth. Overall, Li has three top-five finishes and 13 top-20 placements. She has recorded 21 rounds under par in her career.

Amina Wolf came to the Bears from Frankfurt, Germany. Wolf's four-year career has included 22 tournaments and 59 rounds as she has averaged 75.8 strokes per round in her career. Wolf has two-top 10 finishes including a 10th-place finish at the Gunrock Classic this year. Wolf also recorded an eighth-place mark at the Stanford Intercollegiate as a sophomore.

Cal also honored Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 recipients Oh and Katherine Zhu. Zhu had one of the best freshman seasons in school history and is on the verge of breaking Li's record for lowest scoring freshman season. Zhu has a season-long average of 73.5 and has two top-five finishes and six top-20 finishes. Zhu finished in the top 25 for eight consecutive events.

Cal has concluded their regular season, but will be looking towards the postseason. They will find out their fate for the NCAA Regionals as the selection show will take place at 2:30 p.m. PT on Golf Channel on Wednesday.
