EUGENE, Ore. – California ended the regular season on a high as the 35th-ranked Golden Bears shut out No. 45 Oregon, 4-0, on Saturday at the Student Tennis Center. Golden Bear sophomore Jack Molloy clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-2 result over Ty Gentry.

Cal improved to 12-11 overall and 4-4 in the Pac-12, after finishing with a split (including a 4-3 loss at Washington on Friday) on its trip to the Pacific Northwest. Oregon is now 13-9 (1-7 Pac-12).

In doubles, the teams split the first two matches, with Cal's Paul Barretto and Can Kaya besting Oregon's Riki Oshima and Charles Roberts, 6-2, on court two and then Cal's 32nd-ranked pair of Jacob Brumm and Yuta Kikuchi losing to Gentry and Joshua Charlton, 6-2 on court one. Cal captured the doubles point when Mert Zincirli and Ben Draper beat Emmanuel Coste and Armando Soemarno, 7-5, on court three.

Draper soon won again in singles, as he topped Roberts, 6-2, 6-1, on court five to double Cal's lead. Cal junior Bjorn Hoffmann then defeated Ethan Young-Smith, 6-3, 6-2, on court six to give the Bears a 3-0 lead, 1 before Molloy completed Cal's win on court two.

"We knew what we were playing for today, and our guys came out and played one of their most focused matches of the year," said Peter Wright, Cal's Director of Men's Tennis. "I'm impressed with how we bounced back after our disappointing loss yesterday."

The Bears now turn their attention to the Pac-12 Championship that starts next week in Ojai, California. The tournament begins on Wednesday, with the Nos. 8 and 9 seeds playing each other. The Bears will probably start tournament play on Thursday as the No. 4 seed.
