BERKELEY – The Cal women's water polo team, whose 2019 season ended in overtime in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships, placed four student-athletes on the ACWPC All-American Team that was announced Thursday.

Sophomore Kitty Lynn Joustra was named to the First Team, junior Emma Wright earned Second Team honors, senior Madison Tagg was placed on the Third Team and sophomore Brigit Mulder garnered Honorable Mention.

Joustra, an ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention last year as a freshman, has established herself as arguably the top center in the country. She finished the season with 34 goals and 79 earned exclusions. She was also named to the All-MPSF Second Team.

Wright earns her third straight All-American honor after garnering Honorable Mention in each of her first two seasons at Cal. Wright emerged as one of the top all-around players in the college game this season with 67 goals, 33 assists, 24 steals and 17 blocks. She becomes the eighth three-time All-American in Cal history.

Tagg had a brilliant season, especially in conference play when she led the MPSF with 10.89 saves per game. She was an All-MPSF Second Team selection who twice amassed 18 saves in a game – tied for the most in the conference all season. Tagg was an All-American Honorable Mention last year.

Mulder exploded on to the scene this year after seeing limited time as a freshman. She ranked second on the team with 42 goals while adding 33 assists, 13 steals and 17 blocks.

The Bears finished the 2019 season 17-9 and ranked No. 4 in the nation. They advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the fifth time in the past six years, falling to USC 10-8 in overtime.
