Golden Bear Grads Compete At Rowing World Cup II

POZNAN, Poland – The World Rowing Cup II wrapped up on Sunday in Poznan, Poland, with several former members of the Cal men's rowing team racing for their respective nations.

Martin Mackovic, a 2018 graduate, recorded Cal's best result of the weekend, finishing fourth for Serbia in the men's pair. The Serbian pair won its heat to open the competition on Monday.

Ferdinand Querfeld, a member of the Class of 2019 who helped Cal claim the Kennedy earlier this month, led the Austrian four to a fourth-place finish in Sunday's B Final. Alex Wallis, who graduated last spring, and the U.S. four finished less than a second behind, taking fifth in the B Final.

Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk, Class of 2018 and a three-time Pac-12 Rowing Athlete of the Year, placed third in the B Final of the single sculls, good for a ninth-place finish overall.

The next major event on the international racing schedule is the World Rowing Cup III, which will be held July 12-14 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The Under-23 World Championships and World Junior Rowing Championships will take place in late July.
