Bears Beat Huskies In Overtime Thriller

Sophomore Matt Bradley Knocks Down Game-Winning 3-Pointer.

BERKELEY – Sophomore Matt Bradley knocked down a late 3-pointer for the second time in as many games to send California to a thrilling 61-58 win over Washington in overtime Saturday night at Haas Pavilion.

After Bradley hit a three to ice the game against Washington State on Thursday night, he did it again by banking in a shot from straight away over the outstretched arm of Husky defender Jaden McDaniels.

Cal evens its overall record at 8-8, and improves to 2-1 in Pac-12 play as the Huskies fall to 11-6 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

Bradley led the Bears with 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, while junior Grant Anticevich added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Senior Paris tallied 10 points for California as the Bears swept the weekend against the Washington schools.

Cal held Washington to just 30 percent shooting from the floor, including 8-of-32 (25 percent) from beyond the arc. The Bears scored 12 points off 13 UW turnovers and outscored the Huskies 26-18 in the paint.

Isaiah Stewart led Washington with 13 points to go along with six rebounds.

Washington knocked down two free throws to tie the game at 58 before Bradley hit the game-winner, and Hameir Wright missed a potential chance to send it to double-overtime at the other end as time expired.

Austin gave Cal a 56-52 lead in overtime with 2:56 left, crossing over a Washington defender at the three point line and finishing with the left hand at the rim.

Both teams missed chances at the offensive end in the final 30 seconds to send the game to overtime.

The Huskies took their first lead of the second half and first since the 16:42 mark of the first on a layup from Jamal Bey to grab a 49-47 lead with 3:33 left in the game. Cal went more than five minutes without a field goal, allowing a 12-2 UW run as the Huskies tied the score at 43-43 at the 6:39 mark.

Washington hit their seventh 3-pointer of the night to cut the Bear lead to 41-34 with 11:27 to go in the game as the Huskies used their second timeout. Matt Bradley drove the lane and finished in traffic to give Cal its biggest lead of the evening at 35-25 at the 17:09 mark of the second half.

Back-to-back jumpers from Anticevich and Austin gave California their biggest lead of the half at 28-20 heading into the locker room at the half. Anticevich had seven first-half points to lead the Bears, while Washington had five players with three points each. Cal held UW to just 7-of-28 shooting (25 percent) from the field in the first half.

Cal used a 6-0 run to take a 19-12 lead, before a UW three at the other end from Hameir Wright cut the advantage to 19-15 at the third media timeout with 6:21 to go in the half. Washington finally made their first two-point field goal with 5:52 left in the first on a layup from Isaiah Stewart, making it 19-17 Cal.

The Bears built an early 11-6 lead on a 3-pointer from freshman Kuany Kuany at the 13:26 mark of the first half, and a Bradley jumper made it 15-12 Cal at the second media timeout of the first half with 11:07 left in the opening frame.
