No. 4 Bears Split Close Matches At Gaucho Invite
Cal Knocks Off No. 7 Michigan, Falls To No. 13 UCSD In Overtime
SANTA BARBARA – The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team played two thrilling games on the final day of the Gaucho Invite on Sunday, edging No. 7 Michigan 8-7 before falling to No. 13 UC San Diego 14-13 in sudden victory overtime.
Junior
Claire Sonne was heavily involved in the final moments of each game, including scoring the game-winner over the Wolverines with one second remaining. She also scored a goal with 15 seconds left in the second overtime to tie the game and force the sudden victory session.
Sophomore
Grace Raisin played a big role in the Bears' win over Michigan, scoring three goals with three earned exclusions. Her two goals in the third quarter tied the game at 5-5 after Cal trailed 5-2 at the half.
The Bears and Wolverines traded goals throughout the fourth quarter before Sonne converted right before time expired. Freshman
Sophie Leggett scored two goals for Cal and junior goalie
Cassidy Ball tied her career high with 12 saves.
The game against the Tritons was a wild affair that featured five lead changes before UCSD finally ended it just over a minute into sudden victory. The Tritons took a 13-12 lead with 55 seconds left in the second overtime session but Sonne scored on a 6-on-5Â to tie it up once again.

Hannah DeRose added a pair of goals.
Leggett scored nine goals during the four-game tournament and shares the team lead with Sonne with 10 goals.
The Bears return to Berkeley for their first home dates of the season next weekend when they host the Cal Cup at Spieker Aquatics Complex and Legends Aquatic Center on Saturday and Sunday. Cal will welcome Stanford, UC Irvine, UC Davis, San Jose State and Fresno State to town for the tournament.
