No. 10 Cal Goes 197.075 In Strong Showing At No. 24 UW
Women’s Gymnastics Posts Second Consecutive 197.0+ Score To Boost Season Average
SEATTLE – For the second consecutive weekend, No. 10 California women's gymnastics posted a 197.0+, as the Golden Bears tallied a 197.075 Sunday afternoon at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The Bears fell to the No. 24 Huskies, who scored 197.225, but Cal's strong showing ups its season average.
Cal took home four event titles, including three on bars as
Maya Bordas,
Nina Schank and
Emi Watterson produced a three-way tie to win the event with 9.875s.
Kyana George won vault by setting a career-best 9.925.
Bordas also took second in the all-around with a 39.400, while freshman teammate
Nevaeh DeSouza was third with a 39.225.
After scoring a program-record 49.575 on the uneven bars last week, Cal kept it rolling in Seattle, tallying a 49.400 to start off the day. Cal's booming bars score was aided by a trio of 9.925s as Bordas matched her career-high, and Schank and Watterson also scored 9.925s.
Alma Kuc matched her season-high 9.825.
A season-high team total on vault helped the Bears create more separation from Washington to lead 98.525-98.400 halfway through the meet. Cal scored 49.175 on vault after a pair of new career-high performances from George (9.925) and Schank (9.825), who was making her season debut on the event. Clausi was third on the event with a 9.875, and DeSouza matched her career-best 9.80.
Clausi's career-high 9.95 on floor, which was good for second place, led another big rotation for the Bears, who posted a 49.275, their second-highest score on the event all season. She was one of two Bears with a career-high on the event, with Bordas adding her second personal best on the day with a 9.875 on floor.
Cal went 6-for-6 on beam to close out the day, and scored another 49.0+ with a 49.225, the second-highest score on the event this season. George and DeSouza and paced the lineup with a pair of 9.875 to share third. It was also a career-high for DeSouza. Bordas scored a 9.85.
Next up, the Bears remain on the road, heading south to take on Arizona State next Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. PT.
