QUICK HITS
- All three wins during Cal's current streak have been at Haas Pavilion.
- The Bears have played more games (9) than any other Pac-12 team entering Thursday's contest.
- Pac-12 points leader Matt Bradley (ankle) and senior forward Grant Anticevich (appendectomy) have both missed the last two games.
- Cal owns an 84-64 all-time advantage against Oregon, but has lost seven straight dating back to Jan. 17, 2017.
- A win over the Ducks would be Cal's first in Eugene since Jan. 9, 2014. In that win, an unranked Cal squad topped No. 13 Oregon, 95-83.
- Cal is 4-0 this season when scoring 70 points or more.
- Oregon is the second nationally-ranked foe Cal has played so far this season (Arizona State, then-No. 25 on Dec. 3).
TEAM EFFORT
Despite being without
Matt Bradley (19.1 PPG) and
Grant Anticevich (10.3) in its last two games, Cal has won both contests with total team efforts.
Makale Foreman and
Ryan Betley poured in a combined 42 points in a 31-point blowout of CSUN on Dec. 19 and a five-point win over Seattle U on Dec. 22 took a bit of everything as
Ryan Betley (17),
Joel Brown (12) and
Kuany Kuany (11) scored in double figures and
Andre Kelly hauled in a career-best 11 boards.
THE LEADING ROLE
Matt Bradley enters Thursday's game as the Pac-12 points leader at 19.1 PPG and has tallied a conference-best four 20-point efforts, all while missing the past two games due to an ankle injury. The lefty has found his way to the free throw line at a consistent rate, ranking third in the conference with 32 makes, and has improved his rebounding this season (career-best 5.1 rebounds per game).
HYDER IN THE MIX
After the NCAA granted a waiver to allow all DI student-athletes to compete immediately, sophomore guard
Jarred Hyder made his Cal debut in a win over CSUN on Dec. 19. In two games played, Hyder has totaled 11 points and six assists in 34 minutes.
1K CLUB
Three Bears –
Matt Bradley (Dec. 9),
Ryan Betley (Dec. 13) and
Makale Foreman (Dec. 19) – reached 1,000 career points in three consecutive games in December. Bradley, having played his entire career at Cal, is the 48th player in program history to join the 1K Club and the first since
Jabari Bird in 2016-17 Betley scored the first 944 points of his career at Penn. Foreman scored 423 points at Chattanooga and 515 points at Stony Brook before arriving in Berkeley.
WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?
Joel Brown has been a steady hand in each of Cal's past two wins, helping make up for Bradley and Anticevich's missed production. After a stat-sheet stuffing performance against CSUN on Dec. 19 (10 points, eight assists, six rebounds, two steals), Brown tied a career high with 12 points vs. Seattle U on Dec. 22. Six of Brown's 12 points against Seattle U came from pivotal 3-pointers late in the contest, and the sophomore guard scored eight of Cal's final 13 points. He's the Pac-12 leader in steals (17) and ranks fourth in total assists (32).
