STANFORD – Junior Georgia Gilmore scored a career-high three goals – including the final one of the game to give the Bears some comfort – and the No. 6 Cal women's water polo team got by No. 7 Michigan 10-8 on the first day of the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.

Junior All-American Brigit Mulder also scored three times for the Bears (6-3), who overcame an early 4-1 deficit for the victory.

Junior goalie Cassidy Ball made five saves and limited the Wolverines to four goals in the final three periods.

After falling behind 4-1 with 2:33 left in the first period, the Bears quickly closed the gap with goals by freshman Shea Salvino and Gilmore late in the first period.

The game was tied 8-8 with 4:23 left when Mulder gave Cal the lead for good with a goal that was assisted by junior Claire Sonne. Gilmore then scored less than a minute later, and the Bears' defense did the rest.

Cal completes play at the Stanford Invitational on Sunday morning with a game against the No. 2 Cardinal.
