LOS ANGELES - Eighteenth-ranked Cal women's tennis returned to action after a short break but faltered in a clash with No. 2 UCLA, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Bruins clinched the victory when Sasha Vagramov defeated Cal's Jessica Zeynel, 6-2, 7-6(4), to make the score 4-0. The Golden Bears pushed the final three singles matches to three sets each, but UCLA prevailed to blank the Bears, 7-0.

"I thought it was a very good match," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "I don't think the overall score reflects the type of match it was. If you look at the scores on every court in singles and doubles, you'll see we pushed the team that just made the ITA National Team Indoor Championship final to the very end. Considering we haven't played in two weeks, it was very encouraging. I'm really excited we have another match tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to that."

Cal's record is now 1-2. UCLA - which lost to North Carolina in the national team indoor final on Feb. 10 - is 8-1.
