Cal-Utah Postgame Notes

Bears Pull Out Victory In Overtime

  • With the 86-79 overtime win over Utah, Cal has swept the mountain schools at home for the first time since 2016-17. On Thursday, the Bears defeated No. 21 Colorado, 76-62.
  • Cal moved to 3-0 in overtime games this season. Earlier, the Bears defeated UNLV (79-75) and Washington (61-58).
  • All four Cal seniors, who were making their final Haas Pavilion appearances, earned starts in the game – David Serge, Jacob Orender, Kareem South and Paris Austin. It marked the first career starts for both Serge and Orender. The foursome was honored on the court in a pregame ceremony.
  • Grant Anticevich reached double figures in scoring for the 11th time this season, finishing with 17 points (all but 2 after halftime). He is the lone Golden Bear to start every game this season.
  • Matt Bradley scored 21 points before fouling out in overtime to continue his run of reaching double figures in all but one games this season (11th 20-point game of the year). He also made one 3-pointer to extend his streak to every Pac-12 game this season.
  • Joel Brown contributed 11 points, his highest total since he had a career-high 12 points vs. UNLV on Nov. 12.
  • Cal outscored Utah, 20-6, on second-chance opportunities. The Bears pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
  • Andre Kelly set a career high with 5 blocks. He previously had 4 vs. Seattle on Dec. 29, 2018. Kelly also added 15 points and 9 rebounds vs. the Utes before fouling out in overtime.
  • As a team, Cal registered 7 blocks, matching it highest total this year (also 7 vs. UNLV on Nov. 12). The Bears had not had more than four in any Pac-12 until today.
  • Paris Austin scored 12 of his 15 points after halftime.
  • After committing just 8 turnovers vs. Colorado Thursday, the Bears had 8 turnovers against Utah (only 2 after halftime and 0 in overtime) – the second time this season they've had less than 10 in consecutive games (also Fresno State/Saint Mary's).
