LA JOLLA, Calif. – Sixteenth-ranked Cal men's tennis fell to No. 21 Oklahoma State, 4-1, on Thursday at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club to snap a three-match winning streak. Ben Draper beat Etienne Donnet, 6-4, 6-4, in singles for the Golden Bears. But the Cowboys clinched the win when the 99th-ranked Dominik Kellovsky defeated Cal's 59th-ranked Jack Molloy, 6-4, 6-4.
 
The Bears' record fell to 5-3 with the nonconference loss. OSU improved to 9-3.
 
Cal got off to a good start, with the duo of Molloy and Yuta Kikuchi prevailing, 6-1, over Kellovsky and Donnet in doubles. But then Cal's 38th-ranked team of Draper and Bjorn Hoffmann dropped a 6-3 result to Brady Draheim and Luke Hammond, and then OSU's 20th-ranked Matej Vocel and Emile Hudd clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Cal's 68th-ranked Paul Barretto and Can Kaya.
 
The teams split the first couple of singles matches to leave Cal trailing 2-1, with Hoffmann losing to OSU's Oscar Moraing, 6-2, 6-2, on court six and Draper winning on court five. Cal trailed 3-1 when the 36th-ranked Kikuchi fell to the 62nd-ranked Vocel, 6-4, 6-1, on court one, before the court-two match ended the contest.
 
"We give credit to Oklahoma State for playing a very solid match today," said Peter Wright, Cal's Director of Men's Tennis. "We had some good opportunities, and a couple of guys played well, but overall as a team we didn't do a very good job of controlling the points."
 
Cal remains in La Jolla to compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship, with one Bear pair – Kent Hunter and Thomas Wright – winning its opening round of 128 match on Thursday night. The two Bears beat Derek Sung and Zachary Pellouchoud, 8-3, in the men's open tournament. Most of the first-round matches are scheduled for Friday, with the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship ending on Sunday at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
