For the second time in the last three seasons, California men's basketball is set for a first-round matchup with Bay Area rival Stanford as the No. 10 seed Golden Bears take on the No. 7 seed Cardinal in their opening game of the Pac-12 Tournament. The action tips off at 6 p.m. PT from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and airs live on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Bears split the regular-season series with the Cardinal, first falling at Stanford, 68-52, on Jan. 2 in the conference opener, before taking a 52-50 victory on Jan. 26 in Haas Pavilion. Three Golden Bears averaged double figures in both contests against the Cardinal, led by
Matt Bradley's 13.5 points per game.
Kareem South and
Grant Anticevich averaged 10.0 points, while
Paris Austin was just shy of double figures with 9.0 ppg. Anticevich averaged 9.0 rebounds against Stanford.
Both Cal and Stanford enter the mid-week tilt on two-game skids after falling at the Oregon schools to close regular-season action.

Matt Bradley is only one 3-pointer away from jumping into the Top 10 in Cal's single-season records.

3 -- California and Stanford have met only three times in the 22-year history of the conference tournament. Cal's record against the Cardinal is 1-2, with Stanford taking a 76-58 win in the last meeting in 2018. The teams also met in 2012 (W, 77-71) and 1990 (L, 77-61).
2011 -- Cal finished this year tied for 8th after the Bears were originally projected to finish 12th -- the first time since the 2010-11 season that the Bears finished higher than projected. Cal was picked to finish 7th and finished 5th instead.
+4 -- Cal posted a 7-11 record in league play, up from 3-15 last season, which marks the largest margin of improvement in the Pac-12. Oregon, USC and UCLA each improved by three wins.

MORE NUMBERS TO KNOW
• This is the first time Cal enters the Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 10 seed. Prior to 2018, the Bears had never entered the league tournament as lower than a 9th seed (1988).
• In this weekend's games in Oregon, Cal shot a combined 84.4 percent (27-32) from the free throw line, going 9-10 at Oregon and 18-22 at Oregon State. Cal has shot above 80 percent at the stripe 10 times this season. Cal's season free throw percentage of 73.5 percent ranks 90th nationally.
• The Beavers held
Matt Bradley to 8 points -- just the second time this season in which he was held under double figures (also 7 points vs. Duke). He ranks 98th nationally with his 17.5 points per game and 91st nationally with 541 total points.
• Cal has two players in the Top 100 in free throw shooting. Bradley is ranked for his free throw shooting percentage (36th, 86.6) and free throws made (82nd, 129), and

CAL IN THE PAC-12 TOURNAMENT
California owns a 16-22 all-time record in the Pac-12 Tournament, including two trips to the championship game in 2006 and 2010. In three of the last five seasons, Cal won its opening-round games, defeating Washington State, 84-59, in 2015's first round and topping Oregon State, 76-68, in the quarterfinals in 2016. In 2017, Cal opened against Oregon State and pulled past the Beavers, 67-62. Last year, the No. 12 seed Bears fell to Colorado, 56-51, in the first round, failing to reach the tournament quarterfinals for the first time since the tournament expanded.
California and Stanford have met only three times in the 22-year history of the conference tournament, with Cal posting a 1-2 record against the Cardinal. Stanford earned a 76-58 win in the last meeting in 2018, and the teams also met in 2012 (W, 77-71) and 1990 (L, 77-61).
The No. 10 seed is 6-17 all-time in the tournament, while No. 10 seeds are 5-12 all-time against the No. 7 seed.

BRADLEY EARNS ALL-PAC-12 SPOT
Sophomore guard
Matt Bradley, who twice this season was voted the Pac-12 Player of the Week, earned a spot on the league's All-Pac-12 Second Team. The San Bernardino, Calif. Product has enjoyed a stellar sophomore campaign for the Bears after averaging 17.5 points, 43.9 percent shooting and racking up 64 3-pointers across 31 games. He averaged 17.4 points in Pac-12 play. Bradley ranks sixth in the league in scoring and second in free throw percentage, shooting 86.6 percent (129-149) at the stripe. He also poured in 20 or more points in 11 games thus far this season and has scored in double figures in all but two games.

FOX APPROACHES 300
Mark Fox is one victory shy of career win No. 300. Now in his 15th season at the helm of an NCAA Division I men's basketball squad, Fox is 13-17 in his first season at Cal and 299-193 for his coaching career. He would become the 82nd active Division I coach with 300 or more wins, and the fourth among Pac-12 head coaches. Dana Altman (669-346, 31 seasons), Sean Miller (404-147, 16 seasons) and Mick Cronin (384-183, 17 seasons) have all reached the 300-win mark.
