The Cal women's water polo team placed nine student-athletes on the 2020 MPSF All-Academic Team, its most since 2015.

Senior Hannah DeRose earned the honor for the third straight year with a 3.46 GPA. The Social Welfare major and Education minor also was named an ACWPC All-American honorable mention last month.

Juniors Claire Sonne, Georgia Gilmore and Brigit Mulder each garnered the accolade for the second straight season. Sonne, an ACWPC Third Team All-American, has the top GPA on the team at 3.76 as a Gender & Women's Studies major. Gilmore has a 3.25 GPA as a Media Studies major while Mulder, an ACWPC First Team All-American, is an Interdisciplinary Studies major with a 3.20 GPA.

Seniors Jackie Sanders and Kristina Garcia, junior Cassidy Ball and sophomores Cynthia Mulder and Carson Broad each took home the academic nod for the first time.

To be eligible for MPSF All-Academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for recognition.

The Bears finished the shortened 2020 season with a record of 11-7 and ranked No. 9 in the country.
