Cal rising sophomore Tzu-Yi Chang has been named a 2019-20 All-American Scholar, the Women's Golf Coaches Association announced Monday.

Chang is the first Golden Bear to earn the honor since Maria Herraez Galvez in 2017. An intended business major, Chang compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.65 during her first year at Cal.

Student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 to be eligible for recognition.

Chang had a solid freshman season on the course, compiling a 74.7 stroke average and placing in the top-30 in five of the seven tournaments in which she competed. She shot a 2-over par at the Cougar Cup in her collegiate debut in September. Chang also shot 5-over par at the Stanford Intercollegiate and IJGA Collegiate Invitational.
