COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – California head coach David Durden has been reconfirmed to lead the United States Olympic Men's Swimming Team at the new Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, now set for July 2021.

The announcement was made by USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko on Thursday morning. Also included in the Team USA announcement were the reconfirmations of Greg Meehan and Catherine Kase as the women's head coach and open water head coach, respectively. Durden, who has led the Cal men's swimming & diving program since the 2007-08 collegiate season, was originally selected to helm the Team USA men in Tokyo on December 3, 2018.
 
"These three incredible coaches remain committed now more than ever to leading our team to great success in Tokyo in 2021," Mintenko said. "While we respect and understand the concern and uncertainty that continues to be felt around the world, together we chose to remain positive and to set our sights on readying a strong team for the Games. Dave, Greg and Catherine's experienced leadership will be invaluable as we navigate these very unique and unprecedented circumstances."
 
Durden's experience with USA Swimming spans more than a decade; he last served as head coach of the Team USA men at both the 2015 and 2017 FINA World Championships and was also an assistant coach at the 2011 World Championships, 2010 Pan Pacific Championships and 2009 Duel in the Pool.
 
Durden has maintained one of the world's most impactful training centers in recent years. Six Cal swimmers combined to earn 11 Olympic medals, including eight golds, at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At the collegiate level, Cal has won four NCAA team titles during Durden's tenure while Durden himself has been named NCAA Coach of the Year four times and Pac-12 Conference Coach of the Year nine times.
 
Team USA's swimming roster for the Tokyo Olympics will be decided at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, set for June 13-20, 2021 in Omaha, Nebraska. The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 pool competition will be held July 24-Aug. 1, 2021.
