BOULDER, Colo. –
Andre Kelly led the Golden Bears in scoring for the second straight game with 16 points but California was unable to overcome Colorado in an 89-60 loss Thursday at the CU Events Center.
Â
The Bears (6-8, 1-6 Pac-12) went back-and-forth with the Buffs in the first half before an extended CU run made it too much to recover from. Kelly's 16 points came on 6-of-7 shooting from the field while
Makale Foreman (13 points) and
Ryan Betley (12) posted double-figure scoring efforts as well.
Â
Colorado (10-3, 4-2 Pac-12) was paced by double-doubles from Jabari Walker and McKinley Wright IV.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Foreman hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Cal an 18-11 advantage and force a Buffs timeout with 9:38 left in the first half. Colorado responded swiftly out of the timeout, however, scoring eight straight to make it a 19-18 contest with 6:37 on the clock.
Â
CU stretched its run to 23-4 over the final nine minutes of the half before Betley knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a 34-23 Buffs lead at halftime. Cal shot 43.5 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes, but committed nine turnovers.
Â
Dimitrios Klonaras hit his first 3-pointer of the season to make it an 11-point game, 47-36, with just over 14 minutes left in the second half. Colorado countered with a run of nine straight points and took a 56-36 lead to force a Cal timeout at 12:29. Kelly scored 10 of his 16 points after halftime.
