Cal Rolls To 168-94 Win Over Virginia In Top-10 Clash
BERKELEY – Second-ranked California notched a convincing 168-94 men's swimming & diving dual-meet victory over No. 9 Virginia in front of a packed house at Spieker Aquatics Complex on Friday night.

The Golden Bears won 11 of 12 individual events while swimming under the lights, including a pair by both
Trenton Julian and
Destin Lasco. Newcomers
Will Roberts,
Liam Bell and
Gabriel Jett recorded their first Cal victories as well. Cal extended its dual-meet win streak to 15 – dating back to Oct. 3, 2018 – with the 74-point victory on Friday and is now 78-11 in such competitions under head coach
David Durden.

Despite the Cavaliers book-ending the meet with wins in the 200-yard medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, Cal flexed its depth throughout 12 individual events.

Julian's two wins came in the 200 free (1:35.54) and 100 butterfly (46.96), while Lasco touched first in the 200 backstroke (1:43.25) and 200 individual medley (1:46.60). Roberts, a fifth-year graduate transfer from Michigan, earned Cal's first win of the night with a 9:13.71 in the 1000 free. Bell, a junior transfer from Alabama, posted 52.49 to beat out teammate
Reece Whitley in the 100 breaststroke; Whitley later won the 200 breast in 1:54.49. Jett won the 500 free in 4:28.20.

Other Cal winners included Hugo González in the 100 back (46.49),
Dare Rose in the 200 fly (1:46.35) and Björn Seeliger in the 50 free (19.70).

UP NEXT
The Bears look ahead to their first Pac-12 dual meet of the 2021-22 campaign on Friday, Oct. 22 at Utah. A portion of the Cal squad will simultaneously travel to Stockton, California, to compete in the two-day Pacific Invite on Oct. 23-24.
