Bears Advance On Day 1 At UCSB Classic
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – California men's tennis won twice in singles on the first day of the UCSB Classic on Friday, with
Noah Gampel and
Lucas Magnaudet advancing to the Saturday quarterfinals.

Gampel, a sophomore, defeated San Francisco's Stevie Gould, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, in the B Flight at the Rec Center Courts. Magnaudet, another Cal sophomore, beat the Gauchos' Josh Williams, 6-1, 7-5, in the C Flight. Also playing in the C Flight at the Harder Stadium Courts, Cal freshman
Michael Wright fell to UCSB's Jonathan Zhang, 7-5, 6-4. Wright next plays in the consolation quarterfinals.

Alex Chang made his college debut in C Flight Doubles, but the pair of Chang and Wright lost to USF's Gould and David Woodland, 8-6, in the opening quarterfinal round at the Harder Stadium Courts. The Bear duo moves on to the consolation draw.
