BERKELEY – Playing before fans for the first time since February 2020, Cal raced to a 92-58 victory over Cal State Los Angeles in the Golden Bears' only exhibition game of the 2021-22 season Monday in Haas Pavilion.

Senior
Grant Anticevich scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the first half. Fellow senior
Andre Kelly added 17 points, while
Joel Brown had seven assists and
Lars Thiemann added 10 points.

As a team, Cal shot 62.1 percent from the floor and made eight 3-pointers, led by three each from Anticevich and
Makale Foreman. The Bears also had 25 assists and forced 27 turnovers.

Anticevich shot 10-for-12 from the field, and had this been a regulation game, the 23 points would have tied a career high. Kelly was 8-for-10 shooting, as well.

Among the newcomers, graduate transfer
Jordan Shepherd had 11 points, with
Sam Alajiki contributing five points and five rebounds.

Andrease Jackson paced Cal State LA with 13 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Cal State LA took a quick 5-2 lead, the Bears got hot, going on a 16-2 run led by eight points from Anticevich. The lead reached as much as 23 points at 47-24 before Cal went into the locker room with a 49-29 halftime advantage.

Out of the break, the Bears sank nine of their first 13 shots to open a 70-40 lead with 13:22 to go, and Cal State LA did not get within 27Â the rest of the way.
UP NEXT
The Bears officially open the 2021-22 regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 9 when they host UC San Diego at 2 p.m. in Haas Pavilion. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks as part of Tip-Off Tuesday and will be available free to all fans through the Pac-12 Now app.
