Cal Drops Road Clash At Washington

Andre Kelly Records Double-Double In 62-51 Loss

SEATTLE – Andre Kelly posted a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double off the bench, but California was unable to overcome its offensive struggles in a 62-51 loss to Washington on Saturday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

The Golden Bears (8-17, 3-15 Pac-12) shot a season-low 26.7 percent and went without a field goal over the final eight minutes of the contest. Matt Bradley led Cal with 13 points, but was just 3-of-16 from the field.

Washington (5-17, 4-13 Pac-12) was paced by 17 points from Quade Green. Jamal Bey added 15 points with 10 coming in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams traded blows through the opening minutes, with the Bears owning a 7-5 advantage nearly four minutes into the game. Seven minutes later, a jumper by Grant Anticevich cut UW's lead to 16-14 before an 8-0 run by the Huskies stretched the gap to 10 points by the 4:49 mark. Cal entered the locker room with a 30-23 halftime deficit. Kelly tallied eight of his 12 points in the first half.

Trailing, 42-30, with 13:48 left in the game, Cal went on a 14-3 run to pull within three points, 45-42, by the 9:07 mark. Baskets by Jarred Hyder, Bradley, Anticevich and Kelly, as well as two free throws from Kuany Kuany, fueled the rally. However, a Green 3-pointer pushed Washington's lead back to six and halted Cal.

The Huskies led by as many as 14 in the second half and were able to put the game away down the stretch as Cal managed just seven points over the final 8:08, all on free throws.

UP NEXT
Cal faces Oregon State for the third time this season on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. PT in Berkeley. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
