Former Cal All-American Kendall Chase was named to the U.S. Olympic Team on Friday as part of the women's quad that will compete in Tokyo next month.

"This is the goal I've had my whole life, even before I started rowing," Chase said. "As a kid playing sports, I wanted to go to the Olympics. It's the pinnacle of athletics and I wanted to be part of it. Just to be able to say now that I am going to the Olympics and that I am an Olympian – the words feel weird coming out of my mouth."

Chase rowed at Cal from 2013-16 and was a two-time Pac-12 Athlete of the Year. She helped the Bears win the 2013 NCAA Championship in the varsity eight.

"We are so proud of Kendall and we're thrilled for the entire Chase family," Cal head coach Al Acosta said. "Making the U.S. team and racing at the Olympics is the ultimate achievement in this sport. We couldn't be happier to see Kendall realize her dreams."

Chase is the second former Cal women's rower to qualify for the upcoming Summer Olympics. Kara Kohler, a 2014 graduate, qualified in the single sculls in February.

The women's rowing event runs July 23-30 at the Sea Forest Waterway near central Tokyo.
