SAN FRANCISCO – A trio of Golden Bears surged into the semifinals of the Battle in the Bay Classic on Friday, with Philip Hjorth continuing his impressive run from qualifying singles and the pair of Yuta Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck edging a Texas duo to advance at the California Tennis Club.
 
Hjorth – who upset Arizona's top-seeded and 32nd-ranked Jonas Ziverts in Thursday's round of 32 – knocked off Stanford's Timothy Sah, 6-3, 6-2, in the singles quarterfinals Friday. He'll face USC's 107th-ranked Bradley Frye in Saturday's 3:30 p.m. semifinal.
 
Kikuchi and Overbeck beat the Longhorns' Nevin Arimilli and Evin McDonald, 8-7(3), in the doubles quarters. The Bears will next take on Arizona's Colton Smith and Jonas Ziverts on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
 
The Battle in the Bay Classic concludes on Sunday.
