Gilmore Earns Fourth Career Selection To MPSF All-Academic Team

The Cal women's water polo team placed 14 student-athletes on the 2022 MPSF All-Academic Team, tying its most ever in a season since the conference has kept records of the honors.

The Bears, who also had 14 honorees last season, had the second most selections in the conference this season.

Graduate student Georgia Gilmore led the way with her fourth MPSF All-Academic selection. Gilmore earned her undergraduate degree in Media Studies in 2021 and this spring completed Cal's Extension Certificate Program in Business Administration.

Recent graduates Kitty Lynn Joustra, Carson Broad and Cynthia Mulder each earned her third career honor. Joustra is also a three-time ACWPC All-American (the 2022 team has yet to be announced) and was a 2020 Olympian for The Netherlands.

Senior Emma Wright, juniors Isabel Williams, Cecily Turner and Shea Salvino and sophomore Ruby Swadling each earned her second career honor. Wright is also a three-time ACWPC All-American and was named to the 2022 All-MPSF Team along with Williams.

Senior Elli Protopapas and sophomores Mallory Reynoso, Maryn Dempsey, Reagan Whitney and Maddie DeMattia were honored on the MPSF All-Academic Team for the first time.

To be eligible for recognition on the MPSF All-Academic Team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, be a sophomore academically and play in at least 50 percent of her team's games.

The Bears went 17-6 this season and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship. They finished ranked No. 3 in the final national CWPA Top-25.
