Joustra, Voorvelt Help The Netherlands Win Bronze

Six Golden Bears Participate In 2022 FINA World Championships

Recent Cal graduate Kitty Lynn Joustra and rising sophomore Rozanne Voorvelt helped The Netherlands women's water polo team capture the bronze medal at last week's FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Joustra, a four-time All-American for the Bears who also played on the Dutch National Team at the Tokyo Olympics, totaled seven goals during the tournament. Voorvelt, a member of the 2022 MPSF All-Newcomer Team, scored four goals in three games.

The Bears also had three alums play for Canada at the World Championships – Emma Wright, Kindred Paul and Kelly McKee. Wright, also a four-time All-American and Tokyo Olympian, scored 11 goals during the tournament – including four in a group play win over Kazakhstan. Paul and McKee added two goals apiece during the championships.

Rising junior Ruby Swadling, a 2022 ACWPC All-American Honorable Mention, was an alternate for Australia but did not see any action.

The Bears went 17-6 last season and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship.
