BERKELEY – The California men's basketball team wraps up a two-game homestand by hosting Oregon State at noon PST on Sunday in Haas Pavilion.

Both the Golden Bears and the Beavers enter Sunday's contest on losing streaks, having dropped three and six straight games, respectively. Cal (3-16, 2-6 Pac-12) has notched all three of its wins this season in Berkeley since Dec. 21 but was dealt a 29-point defeat by Oregon on Wednesday. Oregon State (7-12, 1-7) lost the front end of its trip to the Bay Area on Thursday night at Stanford, 67-46, and has lost 25 consecutive games played away from Gill Coliseum.

Ted Robinson and Mike Montgomery will have the call for the Pac-12 Network.

NOTEWORTHY
  • Cal has won two consecutive games against Oregon State, having swept the season series in 2021-22. A third straight win over the Beavers on Sunday would mark the Bears' longest active win streak against a Pac-12 opponent.
  • Cal is 10-1 at home against Oregon State since 2009-10. That one loss came two seasons ago on Feb. 25, 2021 (59-57 loss).
  • Freshman Grant Newell recorded his second double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds at Washington on Jan. 14. Newell is the only Pac-12 freshman with a double-double this season and he's averaging 9.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game since Dec. 10.
  • Freshman ND Okafor scored a career-high 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting in Cal's loss against Oregon on Wednesday. He's averaging 5.3 PPG on 58.6% shooting in the past eight games (Dec. 18-Jan. 18) after scoring five total points in the six games prior (Nov. 21-Dec. 4).
  • Leading scorer Devin Askew (16.1 PPG) has missed seven of 10 games, including five in a row, since Dec. 31.
  • Senior guard Joel Brown nearly triple-doubled with nine points, nine rebounds and seven assists (to just one turnover) in Cal's 63-61 win at Oregon State on Feb. 9, 2022 last season. Brown is averaging 8.7 PPG, 3.5 APG and 3.2 RPG in the past 10 games since Dec. 7.
  • An improved defensive effort will be needed by the Bears on Sunday, as they've allowed their past five opponents to shoot 45.5% or better from the floor. Oregon State has averaged just 59.8 PPG on 39.7 FG% during its current six-game losing streak.
  • Cal earned all three of its wins during a four-game homestand from Dec. 21-Jan. 6. In addition to their 52.5 FG% during that homestand, the Bears shot 51.9% from 3-point range (28-of-54) during the same span. That stretch was highlighted by a school-record-tying 16 made 3's (16-of-22, 72.7%) in a 92-70 win against Stanford on Jan. 6.
  • Cal head coach Mark Fox is 5-4 in his head coaching career against Oregon State. Two of those wins came during his tenure at Nevada.
