No. 11 Bears Swim Past No. 10 USC
Stadden, Mazurek Win Twice To Lead Cal To Victory
BERKELEY – Junior
Isabelle Stadden and sophomore
Ella Mazurek each won two individual events and the No. 11 Cal women's swimming & diving team dominated the butterfly events on its way to a 152.5-141.5 Pac-12 dual meet victory over No. 10 USC on Friday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Stadden continued her season of dominance in the backstroke events, winning the 100 back with a time of 52.39 and 200 back in 1:52.81. Stadden holds the third-fastest time in the country this season in the 200 back and the fourth-fastest in the 100 back. She also is a member of the U.S. National Team in both events.
Mazurek swept the sprint freestyle events, taking the 50 free in 22.79 and the 100 free with a mark of 49.85.
Cal swept the top three spots in both the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly events, with senior
Rachel Klinker winning the 200 fly in a time of 1:57.43. Sophomores
Lizzy Cook and
Leah Polonsky finished directly behind her. Klinker has the eighth-fastest time in the 200 butterfly this season and the third-best time ever at Cal.
Sophomore
Mia Kragh captured the 100 fly event with a mark of 53.13, edging out teammate and fellow sophomore
Lizzy Cook by three-one hundredths of a second. Klinker finished third.
Other Cal winners included
Mia Motekaitis in the 200 freestyle at 1:46.83 and senior
Ayla Spitz in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:48.36. Cal's 200 medley relay team of Stadden,
Jade Neser, Kragh and
McKenna Stone also notched a victory.
The Bears are back at Spieker Aquatics Complex on Saturday morning to face No. 24 UCLA in their final home appearance of the season. Cal will honor Spitz, Motekaitis, Klinker and fellow seniors
Emma Davidson,
Sarah DiMeco Cassie Graham and
Eloise Riley in a special ceremony before the meet.
