Cal Holds Spartans Scoreless In First Half On First Day Of Cal Cup

BERKELEY – Redshirt freshman Janna Tauscher registered her first career hat trick and All-American goalie Isabel Williams recorded 11 saves in just three quarters of action, and the No. 4 Cal women's water polo team rolled past No. 14 San Jose State 15-4 on the first day of the Cal Cup at Spieker Aquatics Complex on Saturday.

Junior Maryn Dempsey had a hat trick as well while also adding two steals, as the Bears (4-0) held the Spartans scoreless in the first half and had nine different players score.

Freshmen Abbi Magee and Millie Quin each added a pair of goals while senior Cecily Turner and junior Ruby Swadling had two assists apiece.

Cal led 8-0 at halftime and didn't allow San Jose State to score until the 6:12 mark of the second quarter.

The Bears continue play in the Cal Cup on Sunday with matchups against No. 1 Stanford and No. 11 UC Davis.
