BERKELEY – The California women's tennis team produced a typically strong showing in the Cal Fall Invitational on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts, winning 12 of 14 matches, placing two doubles teams in Sunday finals and sending four Golden Bears to Sunday's singles semifinals.
 
In Saturday morning doubles semifinals, the Blue or top flight's top-seeded pair of Bears Hannah Viller Moeller and Mao Mushika defeated Stanford's fourth-seeded Valencia Xu and Eleana Yu, 8-4. In the Gold Flight, Cal's top-seeded duo of Lan Mi and Titziana-Marie Schomburg beat San Jose State's Rozalina Youseva and Cheuk Ying Shek, 8-5, to book a spot in the final.
 
Two rounds of singles were played in each flight Saturday, with the Bears winning all six of their matches in the Blue Flight. The Cal trio of top-seeded and 98th-ranked Katja Wiersholm, second-seeded Viller Moeller and fourth-seeded Mushika did not drop a set in those six matches as they advanced to the semifinals. In the Gold Flight, the top-seeded Mi likewise did not lose a set in her round of 16 and quarterfinal victories.
 
Cal's Makenna Thiel and Cami Brown triumphed in the singles round of 16 of their respective flights – Gold for Thiel and White for Brown. But both fell in the quarterfinals Saturday night under the lights at Hellman.
 
The annual Cal Fall Invitational ends Sunday.
