TULSA, Okla. – California men's tennis junior Carl Emil Overbeck won his qualifying singles opener and the Golden Bears had mixed success in doubles at the ITA All-American Championships on Monday at the Case Tennis Center in LaFortune Park.
 
Overbeck defeated Princeton's 73rd-ranked Top Nidunjianzan, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 64 to advance to Tuesday's round of 32, in which Overbeck will face Baylor's 72nd-ranked Oskar Brostrom Poulsen at 9 a.m. CT/7 a.m. PT.
 
The Denmark native paired with Derrick Chen in qualifying doubles to beat BYU's Zach Fuchs and Wally Tyane, 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-8, to set up a round of 32 match vs. Virginia's eighth-seeded and 46th-ranked Alexander Kiefer and Jeffrey von der Schulenberg later Monday. Tied at 6-6, Bears had to withdraw from that match, and the Cavaliers advanced.
 
Also in the qualifying doubles round of 64, Cal's Alex Chang and Tim Stepanov fell to Baylor's 48th-ranked Brostrom Pousen and Martin Breysach, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10.
 
Qualifying for the ITA All-American Championships continues Tuesday, with the main draws starting Wednesday.
