Cal Duo To Compete In Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship
Sampson Zheng, Jeewon Park Representing Their Countries In Melbourne
MELBOURNE – California men's golf seniors
Sampson Zheng and
Jeewon Park will step away from their collegiate season this week to compete in the 2023 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
The four-day, 72-hole stroke-play event runs Thursday through Sunday and features 120 golfers comprised of the top male amateurs in the Asia-Pacific region representing the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation member organizations. Zheng and Park will represent China and Korea, respectively.
Zheng played in the 2022 edition of the event in Thailand, placing 20th with a 4-under-par 284.
The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship was created in February 2009 as a joint initiative to grow the game by the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, the Masters Tournament and The R&A. The champion receives an invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament and an exemption into The Open and The Amateur Championship, which are conducted by The R&A. In addition, the runner(s)-up are invited to The Open Qualifying Series, providing an opportunity to qualify for The Open.
