MORAGA – The California women's tennis team saw four Golden Bears reach the top-flight singles quarterfinals and one pair advance to the top-flight doubles quarterfinals on the first day of the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational on Friday at the Korth Tennis Complex. Cal's Berta Passola Folch, the top seed in singles, had a first-round bye and then won in the round of 16 – beating the Gaels' Tian Yu Dong, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, to reach Saturday's third round.
 
The Golden Bears joining Passola Folch in the Blue singles quarterfinals Saturday are second-seeded Lan Mi, sixth-seeded Makenna Thiel and eighth-seeded Tiziana-Marie Schomburg.
 
In the Red singles flight, Cal's second-seeded Cami Brown had a round of 32 bye and then bested Cal Poly's Eliza Bates, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, to move into the quarterfinals.
 
In Blue doubles, the pair of Mi and Schomburg defeated the Academy of Art's Amelija Supulniece and Erica Hellbe, 6-4, in the opening round of 16 to advance to Saturday.
 
Saturday's matches at the Gaels' annual tournament begin at 9 a.m. PT.
