Bears Prep For Virtual Meet With Springfield College

Cal Will Appear In Rare Friday Competition

 Live Stream/Live Results

BERKELEY –
After a quick turnaround from a meet featuring four event-winning performances, California men's gymnastics returns to a familiar environment for its next competition, appearing in a virtual meet with Springfield College on Friday, Feb. 17. Cal will be streaming live from its practice facility, the Golden Bear Recreation Center, at 12:00 p.m. PT.

"It's an opportunity for us to see a team that we don't meet up with often while avoiding the stress on the body that comes with travel," said head coach J.T. Okada. "We're one of the only sports that can still effectively compete when each team is in a separate place."

This will mark junior Noah Newfeld's last competition before he travels to Louisville, Ky., for the Winter Cup (Feb. 24-26), where he has the opportunity to earn a spot on the U.S. National Team.

Cal currently fields the No. 6 parallel bars squad in the nation, as well as the NCAA's No. 10 vaulter in sophomore Jasper Smith-Gordon.

Last week in a tri-meet with Air Force and Army, the Bears had standout performances from Newfeld (won two events as well as the all-around), Smith-Gordon (won on vault), freshman Theodor Gadderud (won on parallel bars) and junior Aidan Li, who improved his own career high pommel horse score to 14.100 – third-highest in modern program history.
